“we find ourselves in the moment of transit where space and time cross to produce complex figures of difference and identity, past and present, inside and outside, inclusion and exclusion,”

Homi K. Bhabha from The Location of Culture.

The recent series of works are inspired by personal memories and experiences, the assimilation of other cultures, appropriated images from mass media, and old family photographs. Utilizing personal iconography, through assemblages and a process of layering of these different elements, I try to convey a sense of multiple realities, time references, and existence. The works address issues of identity, hybridization, migration and transculturalism.  The layering and fusion of images is similar to the layers of lost memories, remembrances which slowly drip into our consciousness, triggered by an image, event, sound, or dreams. The idea that everything we lose in life holds a certain power over us, and everything which is near, moves away, gives an impression that nothing is obtainable, or tangible.
